Cybersecurity Funding for Municipalities

Cybersecurity Funding for Municipalities

On Nov. 16, the Office of Cybersecurity, Energy Security, and Emergency Response (CESER) announced a $70 million funding opportunity under the Rural and Municipal Utility Cybersecurity (RMUC) Program. This funding, made available through the president's Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, aims to enhance the cybersecurity capabilities of electric cooperative, municipal, and small investor-owned utilities. The Funding Opportunity Announcement outlines three key areas for potential projects: direct support for eligible utilities to invest in cybersecurity technologies and improvements, strengthening the peer-to-peer and not-for-profit cybersecurity technical assistance ecosystem, and increasing access to cybersecurity technical assistance and training for utilities with limited resources. CESER may issue varying numbers of awards or none at all, with an estimated performance period of 24-48 months for each award.

RMUC has announced its first prize where municipalities will have the opportunity to secure $200,000 each in cash prizes and cybersecurity technical assistance. A total of $7.25 million in cash prizes and $1.71 million in cybersecurity technical assistance will be awarded.

There are two mandatory informational webinars that must be completed before your submission.
Submissions are due Nov. 29.
