$700 Million in First Round of Funding for Community and Corridor EV Charging Infrastructure

The Charging and Fueling Infrastructure (CFI) Program is a new competitive grant funding the strategic deployment of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure in urban and rural locations, including downtowns and neighborhoods, particularly in underserved and disadvantaged communities. The CFI Program will also build EV infrastructure along designated Alternative Fuel Corridors (AFCs).

The two funding categories are: (1) Community Charging and Fueling Grants (Community Program); and (2) Alternative Fuel Corridor Grants (Corridor Program). Eligible awardees are entities owned by a State, political subdivision, metropolitan planning organization (MPOs), local government, transit public authority, and groups thereof. Projects must be publicly accessible (i.e., ungated, no parking passes) and may accommodate electric, hydrogen, propane, and natural gas vehicles.

The CFI Program plans to provide $2.5 billion over five years, with $700 million in the first Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for FY 2022 – 2023. The deadline for applications was recently extended to June 13, 2023.
